Yakuza PSP Spinoff ‘Black Leopard: Like a Dragon New Chapter’ Announces English Fan Translation for August 2023

Fan group Team K4L has announced an August 15, 2023, release date for their fan translation patch for Kurohyou: Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinsho, one of the last few Yakuza titles without official releases outside of Japan.

Kurohyou: Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinsho, or Black Leopard: Like a Dragon New Chapter, was originally released for the PlayStation Portable in 2010, exclusively in Japan. It was developed by AKI Corporation and followed the new protagonist Tatsuya Ukyo in the familiar city of Kamurocho from the rest of the series.

Kurohyou and its sequel differentiate themselves from the rest of the franchise by focusing heavily on one-on-one combat and thus have a very different tone from the rest of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon titles.

The sequel, subtitled Ashura Chapter, was already translated by Team K4L in 2022, and at the time of that launch, the team announced that the first game would be complete by the end of the year; however, they eventually stated on Twitter that the release would be delayed.

The patch for the original game is now due to be released on August 15, 2023, and will require a legal copy of the game and a PSP console with custom firmware installed to allow it to play unofficial content.

In a recent interview promoting Like a Dragon: Ishin!, the series producer was asked about the possibility of remastering and translating the Kurohyou titles officially, but he stated that there are currently no plans to do so, as the team is “looking to the future.”
