New Sonic Speed Strats Video Discusses Sonic CD’s Time Travel, Amy Rose & More

Sega has shared a new episode of their latest ongoing video series, Sonic Speed Strats, focusing on Sonic CD in the Sonic Origins collection. The title is clarified to be the direct chronological sequel to the first game.

Throughout Sonic CD, Eggman is seeking the legendary Time Stones atop a strange planet, so naturally, Sonic goes to stop him. On the way, he encounters Amy Rose, a hedgehog who greatly enjoys fortune-telling. Additionally, thanks to the influence of her cards, she quickly grows smitten with Sonic. However, she gets kidnapped by his lookalike, Metal Sonic, adding another task to Sonic’s to-do list.

The time travel gameplay mechanic is explained in detail, where players will find signs throughout the stages that will lead Sonic to the Past or Future if he upkeeps enough momentum. In the Past, Eggman’s equipment and Metal Sonic holograms can be found, and their potential destruction impacts the future. In addition, new collectibles, the Time Stones, are found in special stages comprising UFOs that must be taken out.

The Super Peel-Out mechanic is also here, leading to some amped-up speed. Moreover, the Japanese and English versions of the soundtracks can be chosen via the options. Tails is also playable here, though Knuckles, unfortunately, isn’t.
