Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Says Fans Can Anticipate a High Degree of Freedom Outside Midgar, Experiencing Several Different Stories
Following yesterday’s comment from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s producer reassuring fans that development is going smoothly and that the team is hard at work with finalizing a release date, another new developer comment was released today.
The title’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has teased us on what we can expect regarding exploration outside Midgar. For those who did not play Final Fantasy VII Remake, the entire game took place in the city, so Rebirth has quite a bit of room to open up. And in response to this query, Hamaguchi stated that “players will be able to journey across the wide and multifaceted world with a high degree of freedom, experiencing a myriad of different stories along the way.”
It is worth noting that the term open-world isn’t used, which is to be expected. If I had to guess, we’d likely have some vast fields we can peruse, but the main story will be primarily linear. Considering the graphical scale of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy effort, expecting a fully-fledged open world just isn’t realistic. That, and I don’t think it’d fit the gameplay design either unless truly drastic changes were made from Remake.
We’ll keep you all updated on any future Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comments that are released. If these messages keep releasing daily, the seventh one will arrive on the day of Summer Games Fest, June 8, 2023. So, perhaps this sequel will have a presence there?
This is the sequel to the first entry in this ongoing Remake trilogy effort. Throughout the announcement trailer, players got a tease of the Nibleheim flashback with Cloud and Sephiroth and Zack carrying Cloud, seemingly from either the end of Crisis Core or the end of Remake.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 this Winter.
