Can We All Agree That Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Looks Terrible?

Hey gamers, we’ve been here before. You know when publishers walk that fine line of what is a remaster and what is a remake. It seems like there isn’t a definitive answer on this, and the terms have largely lost their meaning over the years.

Anyway, Ubisoft unveiled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Returning to the project will be the original voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal of the Prince, to bring the adventure to a new generation of gamers.

The biggest problem I have is this game in no way will gain the interest of gamers who aren’t oozing with nostalgia for this series. Which leads me to ask the question, why? Why wouldn’t Ubisoft put some funds into completing what they started in Prince of Persia(2008), a game that deserves a conclusion or perhaps should have been the game that deserved a remake (my personal opinion)?

The publisher released a new trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake that sets up the narrative and how players will platform through environments and utilize the dagger’s ability to reverse time if they encounter danger. The story is excellent, but the execution that Ubisoft has taken to simply slap a new coat of paint onto a game that was released in 2003 just comes off as lazy.

In a market where studious like Square Enix release games like Final Fantasy VII Remake, which shows what a remake is supposed to resemble, and for Ubisoft to deliver this as a return to the Prince of Persia series is disappointing. Simply put, they are setting it up for failure.

For all I know, the gameplay could be as good as it was when I first played it almost 20 years ago, but after going this long without a proper Prince of Persia games, I feel like fans deserve better.

If that’s not enough, in typical Ubisoft fashion, the game has pre-order DLC which gives players:

• The Original Prince outfit from the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
• The Prince’s Original Weapons set.
• A Classic Filter that changes the look and feel of the game on the screen, just as if players were playing the game back in time.

I’m torn because I want to see a return to this series, but I don’t think Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is going to cut it.
