The developer mentioned that even though they are known for their challenging horror games, they wanted to do something completely different with this release. As a result, the game is presented in a cel-shaded design and features a rhythm action system where players chain together attacks with the beat of the music.

The protagonist is named Chai, a victim of a corporate experience that allows him to sense the world’s rhythm. Enemy attacks, cutscenes, and all the action keep the rhythm going. The endearing partner 808 helps keep the timing like a metronome. Other heroes join Chai to add to the combat’s systems and create lengthy and flashy maneuvers.

There’s a deluxe edition as well, which includes:

  • Two Chai outfits
  • Seven bonus Chai t-shirts
  • 808-Themed Guitar Skin
  • 808 Alternate Skin
  • 20,000 Gears for unlocking combat skills and other upgrades. (Note: Gears are obtained through combat and exploration in-game and are not available as a purchasable currency.)

Hi-Fi Rush is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC via Steam.
