Final Fantasy XVI Voice Actor Gives Indie RPG ‘Chained Echoes’ a Shout Out

The English voice actor for Final Fantasy XVI protagonist Clive Rosfield, Ben Starr, was recently on a stream with Kinda Funny Games where he talked about various topics circulating the industry, such as Forza and the recently announced Dead Cells animated series.

However, at one point in the broadcast, Starr mentioned how he has spent 2023 playing lengthy RPGs such as Octopath Traveler II, though he also mentions Chained Echoes. He heavily praises the combat and presentation, calling the battle system refined. Plus, he says the music is brilliant.

It’s pretty cool to see the voice actor of an upcoming major game shout out an indie title that we also love.

Chained Echoes was developed for over seven years. The game borrows many elements from past SNES RPGs with its 16-bit presentation. Players follow a group of heroes tasked with exploring the continent of Valandis to bring an end to the war between its three kingdoms. They will meet other characters throughout the adventure to add to the party and uncover a 30 – 40 hour story.

Regarding gameplay, levels are not traditionally earned through combat. Instead, bosses and significant tasks grant shards that enable the cast to learn various skills. On the other hand, winning battles provides SP used to empower already acquired skills. Moreover, all health and magic are fully replenished after each battle, and the combat design takes advantage of that, requiring players to pour their all into every encounter.

Chained Echoes is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, Game Pass, and PC via Steam and GOG.
