Blizzard Releasing Overwatch 2 on Steam August 10; More Titles to Follow

Blizzard has had a tight lid on their games on PC, requiring their personal launcher to access most of their titles. However, on August 10, this changes as Overwatch 2 will become available on Steam for all users.

The title will remain free for all players, and for those who have already jumped into the fray, switching over to the Steam version will be simple, as a Battle.net account will be used to sync up players’ data like for console versions.

This sync does mean that players must create a Battle.net account even if they aren’t using the launcher, just like any other platform. This also means that Steam players will have access to the Steam overlay and invite friends using the Steam interface to parties in Overwatch 2, allowing more freedom while playing one of their favorite games.

Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment, said the following:

“While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10th. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.”

So, more games will be made available on Steam, but no further details on what titles will become available have been released as of yet. The Steam page has been made live now so players can add the title to their wishlist in preparation for the release on August 10.

Overwatch 2 is a team-based shooter where players team up with friends or a random set of allies to attack or defend objectives using a variety of heroes. Each hero has their own powers and skill set to aid the team, so players can always find a hero that fits their own playstyle.

Overwatch 2 is already out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Battle.net launcher. The Steam version will release on August 10 for all players and will require a Battle.net account.
