JAST USA Announces 6 New Visual Novel Licenses At Anime Expo 2023; Mojika, Djibril, Sisters and More

During their panel at Anime Expo 2023, JAST USA has announced 6 new visual novel licenses they’re currently working on. Most notably, the list of announcements includes Nitroplus’ Mojika, as well as considerably older titles such as Frontwing’s Djibril and Jellyfish’s Sisters.

The first title revealed was Goblins on the March: Breed All Humans!, a visual novel with strategy elements developed as a collaboration between Chaos-R (Sweet Sacrifices) and Freak Strike (Futanari Kanojo Kyousei Seikatsu). It’s directed by Inu Amakakeru (Meteor Pendulum Heart) with illustrations by Jin Isenoya (Shikkoku no Lunaria), Pink Kinmedai (GEARS of DRAGOON) and Nikusho (Masou Shojo).

Goblins on the March was originally released on PC in 2022 and it is described in its official site as follows (translation courtesy of our team’s Ryuji):

Our story begins with Niiza Sho (Interchangeable Name), aka “Me (ore)”, who is driving his truck in a sunny day. That is when he almost collides head-on with a dump truck, but at the moment of impact, he is enveloped by a blinding light.
The next time he wakes up, he is in a deep forest, surrounded by a pungent, strange smell, and sees a small goblin.
“He (kare)” smiles and says, “You are the star of the show today”, and pointed at a girl and continued: “You should do “it” with her.”
This is my way back to the world I came from after being caught up in a war in another world. I invaded a territory ruled by human females, ravished them, and increased the number of allies.

Another announcement was Yomegami: My Sweet Goddess!, a moe-focused visual novel developed by ALcot (Onigokko!). The game tells the story of a young man called Hayato Narukawa, who transfers to the New Masado City school at a pretty irregular time. If that weren’t suspicious enough, he’s hiding a secret: he’s actually the reincarnation of a devil who went berserk.

Despite his past, he’s trying to make amends for his sins and be a good boy thanks to his new mother, who was a goddess. As he tries to live according to her rules, he ends up in a predicament, kissing a classmate by mistake and not finding the right timing to apologize. Now he’s risking losing all the good will he curried in his new life.

The third reveal of the night was Yamizome Liberator from the same series as Yamizome Revenger. Developed by Escu:de (HimeYoku, Re;Lord), the game mixes visual novel and RPG elements. Key staff members include scenario writers Hakumei (HimeYoku), Kinoshita Jack (HimeYoku), and assault (Yamizome Revenger, AMAYAKASE), and illustrators 218, Aikawa Tatsuki, Hinata Momo, and Mitsuki Mantarou.

In Yamizome Liberator, young protagonist Haruomi was sent to another world to defeat the demon lord but once he completed his quest, he went back to his world without fulfilling his desire to have the Goddess Ninia. Worse yet, he soon finds out the demon lord’s soul became a part of him and now he’s being targeted by heroic girls. The only way to stay alive (or maybe the best one) will be to corrupt them with desire getting them to be a part of his harem.

Also known as Minikui Mojika no Ko, the highlight of the presentation was its fourth announcement, Mojika: Truth Rears Its Ugly Head. This is a Nitroplus visual novel written and directed by Shimokura Vio (Tokyo Necro, YOU and ME and HER: A Love Story) with illustrations by Hamashima Shigeo (euphoria, Fraternite, Maggot baits).

This is a dark story about a boy bullied for being ugly. He has a special ability to see what people’s true intentions as “moji” (Japanese characters) when looking at their faces, which only serves to make him more introverted and to fuel his hatred of mankind’s lies even further. That is, until he reaches the breaking point when a girl he likes confesses to him as a joke. Now he’ll have his revenge.

A big surprise of the event was Djibril, a Frontwing title originally released in Japan in 2004 in an episodic format. his mahou shoujo eroge features character designs by Kuuchuu Yousai, whose newer works include Island and Occultic;Nine.

Djibril tells the story of Jinno Naoto and Manabe Rika, a couple who just started dating and now face a major crisis as a demonic kid called Asmodeus is trying to abduct Rika. An angel called Luvriel steps in and the two manage to escape but they soon find out they’ll have to deal with demons hunting them down. The only way out is having Rika transform into Djibril to fight them off.

Lastly, Sisters: Last Day of Summer is another older title but not quite as much as Djibril. Originally released in Japan in 2011, the game was developed by Jellyfish and its scenes are actually animated in both drama portions and H-scenes. The story was written by Tachisui Mayuka, and illustrations come from Rustle and Kouzaka Kouhei (Viper-M1).

The game tells the story of a young man who moves into a rural town deep in the mountains. There, he meets two beautiful sisters and starts living together with them and their mother. These are days filled with happiness, but the family hides a secret.
