I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Vol. 5 Manga Review – Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop

I must admit after I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Vol. 4, I expected the next volume would be the nail in the coffin for me and this series. However, instead, I found new reasons to love the series as the established characters show more of their personality, and we get to see Azusa react to some bizarre curveballs in I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Vol. 5.

I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Vol. 5 begins where volume 4 left off and Falfa is still a slime. Things move as quickly as they always do, and the crew discovers that Fighsly is participating in a fighting tournament. Azusa and Beelzebub enter to make the odds better to get Fightsly attention but then end up fighting each other.

I think we all expected this to happen, but it was a decent fight nonetheless. Azusa is incredibly strong, which borderlines on Superman’s level of unbalanced encounters. She’s almost too strong, so the fights where she is actually challenged are far more interesting to witness.

Following the opening chapter, the entire manga goes off the rails, and we witness almost an entire chapter of a character bearing it all in the name of meat. However, there’s also a really interesting chapter dedicated to an Azusa imposter that builds on the world-building and establishes that there are other witches in this world and that Azusa could have some powerful allies.

There’s no real cliffhanger in this volume, which pretty much hardstops into some bonus chapters. However, it does leave you wondering if zombies do exist in the world. I just found multiple ways to enjoy each chapter in this volume which was the complete opposite of my experience with Volume 4. It had a nice flow, even though it was technically all over the place in terms of themes.

The illustrations in I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Vol. 5 are amazing. Each panel is full of life, and there are so many townspeople and structures present that could have easily just been alluded to in passing. Further, the group travels to several different areas, and we see a variety of different facial expressions. There’s also a fair bit of nudity in this volume, which I wasn’t opposed to as it cleverly blended in some cheeky jokes.

The entire volume is full of laughs through quick-moving volume. I rarely actually laugh out loud during the manga, but this one got me. These characters and the writing is just so insane that I want to keep reading just to see where it’s going to go next. I also really like how balanced the spotlight was on all the characters here since the family is growing, but we still have our favorite characters.

I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Vol. 5 is the reason to stick with this series and not stop. It shows just how great these characters are while pushing the insanity to new limits. I’m in this for the long haul, and I can’t wait to see the next volume one up this entry because my expectations are through the roof. If you’ve been feeling burnt out on the series, keep going because you’re in for some amazing new adventures.
