July 28th Officially Recognized as Steins;Gate Day by Japan Anniversary Association

The official Japan Anniversary Association has announced that July 28 is now recognized as Steins;Gate Day. For those unaware, Steins;Gate is the second mainline entry in the Science Adventure franchise, occurring after the events of Chaos;Head Noah’s true ending.

It is by far the most well-known entry in the series and has amassed a massive worldwide following, to the extent that countless fans aren’t even aware it’s part of an interconnected series.

The official website provided the following reason for this anniversary:

“The purpose of the day is to raise further awareness of the title, which has gained worldwide recognition and a growing fan base with its anime adaptation, and to allow fans to look back on their experiences and discuss them with each other. The date was chosen to commemorate was July 28, as it is the day the story of this title begins.”

Steins;Gate follows Okabe Rintaro, a self-proclaimed mad scientist who frequently converses with others via his chunibyou Hououin Kyouma persona. However, his attitude toward himself and those close to him shifts tenfold as time travel unravels his summer, relationships, and mind.

The original visual novel is available on several older platforms and PC, while a remake with anime visuals, Steins;Gate Elite, is on modern platforms.

In the realm of video games, Final Fantasy VII was recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association earlier this year.

In 2037, the protagonist Pollon Takaoka and his best friend Cross Yumikawa work as hackers for Nakano Symphonies following the “Sad Morning” disaster from 2036. After failing in his task to protect her, he utilizes a new app he receives, which allows him to Save and Load in real life, akin to a video game. With his save data viewable via the game’s UI, Pollon ends up interacting with the player moving forward as they both attempt to uncover the mysteries of this program and several other events.
