Report States PS3, Vita, and PSP Online Stores Will Be Closed This Summer

The success of digital gaming has risen over the years as gamers have found it easier to purchase their games from digital console storefronts rather than hold onto a physical copy. However, the downside of this is that future generations will face issues like the one reported by thegamer.com.

Sources close to the website have shared that the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Portable online stores will close this summer, with more news scheduled for the end of March.

The report reads that PS3 and PSP will close on July 2, and PS Vita will close on August 27. Following these dates, platform holders will no longer be able to purchase games online or DLC.

The PSP initially launched in March 2005, selling over 81 million units worldwide, with the PS3 launching in 2006 garnering over 87 million units sold. The PS Vita was labeled an indie machine, which was a bad thing, but now it is a good thing for Switch; it sold around 15 million units and still receives notable releases on the console.
