Unused Ys Seven Concepts for the Sea Will be in Ys X Nordics
The official Nihon Falcom Twitter account has shared an intriguing quote from the company’s president, Toshihiro Kondo, regarding their recently announced upcoming action JRPG, Ys X Nordics.
Our team’s Ryuji translated the following:
“When I first joined [Falcom], I took over the desk that was previously used by the member who was in charge of writing the scenario, and there were some memos scattered around containing ideas for a Ys game that took place in the high seas. It seems those were supposed to be utilized for Altago’s Five Great Dragons (Ys Seven), but those words always stuck inside me ever since. But now, I was finally able to turn those words into reality.”
While this information is not especially significant since Kondo does not specify what these unused sea concepts from Ys Seven are, it’s pretty cool to know that they’ll be revived in some shape and form.
For those who have not played Ys Seven, it was a PSP title, meaning it was quite limited in what it could depict. With that being the case, it’s not much of a surprise that sea travel was cut from the final release. There is one area the party takes a boat to reach, though it’s solely a cutscene. Perhaps it was initially meant to be reached via actual gameplay?
Regardless, it’s too vague to speculate over. I’m just excited to see how fresh Ys X Nordics will feel. Despite loving most of the previous Ys entries, I’ve wanted a fundamental shakeup for years now, and I’m delighted we’re finally getting that.

The gameplay has undergone a significant shakeup, with there only being two playable characters this time around.
Ys X Nordics will launch in Japan for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in 2023.
