Ys X Nordics Reveals New Trailer; New Song “TO BE FREE”

Dengeki recently hosted another information broadcast for the upcoming Nihon Falcom-developed action JRPG Ys X Nordics, compiling news that was shared via Falcom’s latest character website update and character growth system post from PlayStation Blog Japan.

However, the broadcast did share a new trailer for the game, melding action setpieces, and story scenes. A new song, “TO BE FREE,” also plays throughout the trailer. Further, there is an English message at the start, written by protagonist Adol Christin.

Excerpt from “The Paradise Lost of Norman” by Adol Christin:

“At the moment of birth, we are all as free as a bird.

There are no restrains at all.

But as we age, we are bound by various forces.

Like a bird with its wings torn off, we are gradually deprived of our freedom.

And we long for a return to the days when we were free.

But the truth is, we could always go back to those days.”

Ys X Nordics will occur between Ys II and Memories of Celceta, making it the new third canonical entry in Adol Christin’s adventure logs. The gameplay has undergone a significant shakeup, with there only being two playable characters this time around.

Special maneuvers can be unlocked via story scenes and exploration, allowing for environmental interaction. Further, in solo mode, the character you’re not controlling performs actions judged by their own discretion. Adol will be controlling a ship for combat and island hopping, too.

Unused Ys Seven concepts are being utilized in this outing, too. Ys X Nordics will allow players considerable explorative freedom, enabling naval travel with a recruitable crew and ship combat.

Ys X Nordics will launch in Japan for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on September 28, 2023.
